Wow, it's been almost two years since I posted here! It goes to the belief that blogs are not easy to keep up with, even though everyone seems to have one. While on the City Council, I thought it would be a good way to keep information flowing, but learned how hard it was to write here with council activities, regular (read: paying!) work and family commitments eating up the day's time. No guarantee that won't occur again. But I don't have the City Council's workload anymore.
So here's another attempt to reach out into the blogosphere, where there are as many entries as there are stars, it seems, some with great followings, some just a place to jot musings with nary an echo. Also, with the advent of the Record Journal's blogs and forums, there is a central place to check what's going on in the city and observe, opine or just plain vent. But there's room for other places to visit, and I hope this can be one.
There's a lot to talk about in Meriden: the looming budget, the Plan of Conservation and Development (full disclosure, I was on the committee that created the update); zoning issues, economic development (or non-development, depending on your point of view), educational issues, the fall municipal elections, our state delegation's notoriety of late...plenty to jaw about.
Let's see if I get any echoes on anything.

When is the Meriden City Council, and for that matter, the democrats in the city going to tell Tom Gaffey to get out of the party. These guys have done Nothing to help this city in terms of money. The HuB, flood control, nothing.. Oh ya, 2 million for falcon field, we don't have any more pressing needs? They guy is a fake, where are the democrats?
Well, that didn't take long.
I disagree with you. Our state delegation has brought a lot of money back to Meriden. Education, educational infrastructure (school buildings), flood control moneys, the Hub demolition, ball fields are just a few of the projects their efforts have helped. The bar is set even higher now with Chris Donovan as Speaker, but I'm sure he'll deliver. If you're really interested in what they've done and what they're doing, contact their offices directly. The Democrats, who constantly get bashed by anonymous posters here and on the R-J forums, continually get elected and re-elected because a)the people of Meriden have voted them in ,and b) no-one with better ideas runs against them. That simple.
And if you're going to attack Tom Gaffey on a personal level, be brave enough to do so with your name, and some more substance than he's "a fake." He has his own trials and tribulations right now, which he must face. But they will pale compared to the recent tragic loss he and his family recently suffered. So, anonymous diatribes carry no weight with me. But thanks for posting.
